Complex of pyramids in Xian, China

We all know about the pyramids of Africa along the Nile River in Egypt and Nubia. A few of us are even aware that pyramids have also been found in the Mississippi Valley of North America, Mexico, Central America, Peru, France and Polynesia. But very few people outside of mainland China have ever heard of the pyramids there.

Now MAAT readers will be among a small elite in the world who have the latest details on the incredible pyramids that have been discovered in China. Our sources for this information are two recent articles. The first, "The Secret Pyramids in China," appears in the pilot issue (December 1996/January 1997) of The New Millennium: A Journal for Times of Change and Transformation, published bimonthly by the Association for Research and Enlightenment and the Edgar Cayce Foundation in Virginia Beach, Virginia. The second is "China's Secret Pyramids," which is published in the current issue of Atlantis Rising magazine. (1-800-228-8381)

The presence of pyramids anywhere in the world is of great interest to Africentrists because the oldest and most advanced pyramids appear to have been built by Black Africans.(1) It is becoming increasingly clear that Africa is not only the birthplace of the human race, but also of civilization.(2) Furthermore, substantial evidence suggests that Black Africans spread civilization throughout the Old and New Worlds.(3)

In light of the above, it is possible that the concept of pyramid-building was also spread abroad by these ancient Africans, and the presence of such structures in ancient China and elsewhere may indeed serve as evidence of a remote Black African influence in these far-flung lands. As a matter of fact, Professor Ivan Van Sertima of Rutgers University and other scholars and scientists have proven such a connection between the pyramids of the Nile Valley and those of ancient Mexico and Central America.(4)

It is not our intention here to present full details on the subject, but a number of scientists and scholars have acknowledged the presence of Black people in prehistoric and ancient China. Citing skeletal remains, ancient legends and surviving sculptures and figurines, historian James Brunson, for example, has compiled compelling evidence with respect to the ancient Blacks of this region. He states:

It can be safely estimated that an African presence existed in China from a most remote period, and an evolution of this physical type is an indigenous phenomenon. Ethnically, through climate and other environmental factors, the Negroid type appears to have differentiated into the "Mongolian" or Modern Chinese type. The Negrito or pygmy (in which category the Bushman is included) were perhaps the earliest homo-sapiens to occupy a region extending from the Himalayas in the west, to the eastern China seaboard. From about 30,000 B.C., this diminutive Black people played a dominant role in the civilization of Central Asia.(5)

Brunson adds that "[t]he Hsia, Shang, and Chou Dynasties should be studied fully to gain more insight into the African role in Chinese history."(6)

Black personage from China's Shang Dynasty

Having briefly considered the possible Black African origin of the pyramids of China, let us now reveal some of the fascinating facts about these ancient monuments:

1. Why are the structures referred to as "secret pyramids?"

2. How did the Chinese pyramids come to public light outside of the mainland?

 3. How many pyramids exist?

4. Is the SHENSI province the only location of pyramids in China?

5. How may the pyramids be described?

6. How old are the Chinese pyramids?

7. What is the orientation of the pyramids?

Professor Shiping has revealed some interesting facts in this regard:

  • One of the recently discovered pyramids is located "at the exact geographical middle point of the country..."
  • As a rule the pyramids are oriented toward the stars.
  • The earliest pyramids were oriented with their main axis east-west, but in later centuries they were all oriented north-south.(10)
  •  We shall keep our MAAT readers abreast of developments in the ongoing saga of the secret pyramids of China.
